The Wood County Development Authority is a public entity that was created by the Wood County Commissioner’s in order to promote development within Wood County. Our key purpose is to encourage and assist through loans, investments or other business transactions in the locating of new businesses and to promote the expansion of existing businesses. We maintain the economic stability of the county and provide maximum opportunities for employment in the county. We work in conjunction with federal state and local entities to promote and advance industrial, commercial, agricultural, and recreational developments in the county.
Our office utilizes the local Economic Development Authorities, our website and social media to promote Wood County.
We work to ensure the continued growth of our region, expand the tax base and enhance the regions business climate.
We are proudly represented by a 20-person board of directors that are appointed by the Wood County Commissioners.

The Parkersburg-Wood County Area Development Corporation is a private, non-profit, membership-driven entity created as a forum for the developmental planning of Wood County. Our key purpose is to consolidate various developmental and community interests with the objective of employment and investment opportunities in the area. We act as a community focal point in areas concerning economic planning and development and encourage the retention, expansion and relocation of commerce and industry within Wood County.
We act as a vehicle for the distribution of funding and credit to worthy applications in the pursuit of growing area-businesses.
We work to ensure a stable economy for the residents of Wood County and improve the standard of living in our area.
We are proudly represented by a 30-person board of directors that are nominated and elected at our annual meeting.
Lindsey Piersol, Executive Director of Economic Development
Lindsey joined the office in 2016 and has been vital in helping Wood County grow and thrive as we move forward into the future. Prior to her current role, Lindsey served as the Public Affairs Liaison for the State of Ohio Treasurer Josh Mandel where she was responsible for 23 counties in Central and Southeast Ohio. Prior to that role, Lindsey served as the Economic Development Specialist for the City of Delaware, Ohio—the fastest growing City in the fastest growing County in Ohio.
Lindsey graduated from The Ohio State University with a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and Political Science. She currently resides in West Virginia with her husband, Brett.
Kate Baker, Economic Development Specialist
Kate joined the office in April 2019. A graduate of Ohio University’s Scripps College of Communication with a Bachelor of Science in Visual Communication as well as a Minor in Business Administration and a Specialization in Marketing. Prior to her current role, Kate was a graphic design intern at the Irish Daily Star in Dublin, Ireland. She currently resides in Parkersburg, WV with her Fiancé Kyle.
